IBB HINTS AT RUNNING FOR NIGERIA'S PRESIDENTIAL OFFICE, REALLY.
Well, I can suggest several sacrifices that IBB could make in the service of Nigeria’s people. One would be returning all of the money that was looted from the country’s treasury during his reign. I mean, we are all not dumb now, are we? It’s understandable that the atrocities committed during his reign remain unspeakable. The mainstream Nigerian press has ranted and raved about why he should refrain from running, but they have all stopped short of saying what we all have in mind -> IBB was one of the worst offenders of thievery by a past Nigerian ruler, and still holds clout in a nation where criminals are deeply respected.
In addition to the thievery, there are all the human rights atrocities that he committed but which nobody can directly link him to. One of the worst was the killing of renowned news editor and outspoken activist, Dele Giwa. The death of Dele Giwa was the subject of many a-whisper during his regime and was given permanence by the late, great Nigerian afrobeat artist and activist, Fela Anikulapo Kuti, whose family met a rather suspicious death, also during IBBs regime. But I digress.
The point that I seek to make is that there are so many sacrifices that IBB can make for the people of Nigeria but will refuse to due to the greed and thirst for power that plague most African leaders. Yet, the people he oppressed in the past remain silent in the face of more exploitation at the same hands. While this will be democratic governance over military governance, the common factor is the same. Corruption!
Dear IBB, the biggest sacrifice you can make for Nigeria is to stop meddling in our affairs. Or better yet, the first step you should take towards redemption from your past rule is to set up feeding centers in every local government area in the country. This will provide and guarantee the Nigerian people who cannot afford a good meal three times a day just that; three meals a day. We all know you can afford to. Am I wrong? |
